TUESDAY 17/06

UZES

The Mayor in Uzes is again generously offering a truly remarkable event in the Vallée de l’Eure for Uzès residents this coming Sunday 22 June.

It’s called “Journée Champêtre” so a day in the countryside.

From 11h00 you can listen to some music, enjoy an apéro followed by lunch. Listen to the lunch time cabaret, let the kids run wild as there’ll be plenty of activities set up for them to enjoy.

And all of this totally free to the residents.

Thank you Monsieur Chapon, our mayor of many years standing.

Coming up on SATURDAY 21 June is the national “Fête de la musique” or national Music day.

For those of you new to France I’ll give you a little background information:

The origins of this go back to 1976 with an American musician, Joel Cohen who wanted to celebrate the summer and winter solstices and have music played all day and night long.

In 1982 the cultural minister of France, Jack Lang, thought this was such a great idea, he adopted and adapted it, with the intention that any French musician of any level of expertise could freely take his or her instrument and just play anywhere.

It proved so popular it became an official national festival.

The date of 21st of June was chosen as it’s closest to the summer solstice – the longest day of the year, or the shortest night for those partying on into the wee hours so it seemed an ideal date.

Although it’s not a national holiday, there’ll be plenty of singing, dancing and performing in the streets in villages and towns across the country and the Uzège and Pont du Gard area is no exception. I’m pretty sure you’ll find something on in your village.

To give you an idea, in Bourdic on Saturday 21 June, you can be entertained by the band called Darwin.

They’ll be performing from 8 30pm in the Place de la Mairie. Food and drink on sale on site.

WED 18/06

MONTFRIN

You’ll find the food trucks set up in the Place this evening from 6 30 until 10pm . It’s a weekly event until Wednesday 23 July and designed to bring together the family in a festive spirit.
